The ancestors of the redhead woman
Whatever you think of these special (creatures, they are something special and represent a lasting minority in our cultural history. Research suggests that there were redheaded women even among the Neanderthals. Allegedly, at least one percent of Neanderthals on the European continent in total are said to have been redheaded.

We don't know what special qualities our ancestors associated with the redhead woman, but we do know that in the following ages, redheaded women were seen as fascinating beauty ideals. Unlike in the time of the medieval witch hunts, red hair was so popular in pre-Christian times among the Romans that vain Roman women even had wigs made from the hair of redheaded women.
The redhead woman in film
It's actually surprising that such a fascinating subject as the redhead woman isn't featured more often in film. When she is mentioned, though, it's usually with real emphasis! OK, Pumuckel, the German TV goblin, wasn't a woman, but he probably shaped our cinematic understanding in childhood more than anything. In the box-office hit Perfume, both the first and the last victim was a redhead woman.
And anyone who still remembers Franka Potente in the blockbuster Run Lola Run will see that without her shrill mane of hair the film wouldn't have been the same. Perhaps it wouldn't even have been so successful internationally, let alone inspired the hip London hairstylists to create the shade Lola Red. Even though Lola wasn't a real redhead woman, she was successful, like numerous screen heroines with natural red hair, from Audrey Hepburn to Lindsay Lohan, who, interestingly, are all also surrounded by stories of success and scandal.
Redhead woman - what's really behind the myth of the redhead woman
On one thing we can probably agree: hair color alone doesn't qualify a woman as a witch. We've fortunately long since grown beyond that social status quo, and yet certain traits are still attributed to redheaded women. They're considered more emotionally stable and more willing to take risks, while they're not necessarily always seen as more attractive.
Overall, though, these are still prejudices and attributions, and the character of every redheaded woman is probably as individual as her hair color itself. Only one thing is certain: you're guaranteed to get attention!
