Dyeing Red Hair | WANT a CHANGE?

"Wow, you have such beautiful curls!" A really nice compliment, if the other person didn't answer "oh, if only they were straight, as nicely straight as yours!" Almost every woman knows this "problem": you want a change, preferably what someone else has, and then...bam...preferably undone again. Because somehow you don't quite like it. It really looks better on the other person. But on me? No, that's just not me. Well, what can I say, I once actually had a "problem" like that too. My, let's say, rather spontaneous wish for a change didn't take me to a boutique but, radically, to the hairstylist.

Dyeing Red Hair - The Change
That's how I went from dishwater blonde to a redhead too. That was truly a change. "Why don't you dye your hair red" What a brilliant thought! In my imagination I saw a fiery woman with long red hair, dressed sexy and never at a loss for words. Well, I didn't look like Little Orphan Annie's sister now, but instead of that fiery, sexy woman with the long red hair, a rather skeptical redhead with a shoulder-length layered cut looked back at me. The expression on her face wasn't really sexy, more of a "Who the hell are you and what are you doing in my mirror?" So, a change I bitterly regretted. I was more in the mood for something "more natural". So, now, after five minutes of getting my fill of this shade of red on me. In case I haven't mentioned the eggplant-colored glasses I was wearing at the time...yes. And now what?
Dyeing Red Hair - The Darker, the Better
Since growing it out is only for the brave or for winter, when you can quickly pull a hat on, I truly had to risk another trip to the hairstylist. Dyeing red hair. Easier said than done. Dyeing red hair isn't actually that easy, compared to when you're dyeing hair red in general. But from red to another color? Blonde is rather difficult, you'd have to bleach too far, and even then a red tint can still make the hair look more orange. How do I know? Well, guess. Dyeing red hair is possible, but best toward darker. It doesn't have to be black right away. So my hair went from a cherry tomato to mahogany wood, and has occasionally gotten darker since. But I won't be rushing into another change any time soon. Although, maybe I could be a great redhead after all...in a different body and...in a different life.
